Likely is a research-inspired self-report experience about how you think, connect, and respond to other people. The papers below shaped our questions, our conversation design, and the limits we place on our conclusions.
Likely is an independent student experiment for education, curiosity, and entertainment. It does not scan your brain, diagnose a condition, read neural activity, provide professional advice, or scientifically predict a perfect partner. The living mind is a visual metaphor. Your result is a fallible reflection built from your answers, not a medical or psychological evaluation.
1 · WHY ANSWERING CAN FEEL MEANINGFUL

Opportunities to communicate one’s own thoughts and feelings carried subjective value, alongside reward-related neural and behavioral responses.
USE IN LIKELY
We ask for something personally meaningful and return a useful reflection quickly.
LIMIT
This does not justify manipulative reward loops, engineered compulsion, or a claim that Likely measures dopamine.

Reflections reuse a person’s meaningful distinctions and, when they choose to add them, their own words.
LIMIT
Personal wording alone does not make an interpretation accurate. The synthesis is always correctable.

FINDING
People who asked more questions, particularly follow-up questions, were better liked. Follow-ups communicated responsiveness, including listening, understanding, validation, and care.
USE IN LIKELY
A meaningful answer alters the next question so the experience clarifies instead of marching through an unrelated list.
LIMIT
More questions are not automatically better. Relevance and responsiveness matter more than volume.

FINDING
Self-disclosure, partner disclosure, and perceived partner responsiveness contributed to experienced intimacy; emotional disclosure was more strongly linked than factual disclosure in the reported interactions.
USE IN LIKELY
The product asks about meaning, reflects what it heard, and gives both people a reciprocal question after comparison.
LIMIT
A questionnaire cannot manufacture a relationship. Real responsiveness must come from another consenting person.

Structured, reciprocal, progressively more personal disclosure produced greater closeness than comparable small-talk tasks in the experimental procedure.
USE IN LIKELY
Questions begin safely, become more personally meaningful, and remain reciprocal in the two-person flow.
LIMIT
The study did not show that 36 questions make any two people fall in love. Likely does not market that claim.
3 · THE SIGNALS BEHIND THE LIVING MIND
Likely’s mind map is built from brief self-report prompts inspired by established research traditions. A single short prompt is not equivalent to administering a full validated scale. We use these signals as conversation material, not as clinical measurements.

Likely cannot promise a romantic match, sexual outcome, soulmate, cofounder, or lasting relationship.

A generated question does not establish safety, trust, or compatibility.
5 · HOW THE ALGORITHM WORKS
Likely combines two kinds of information: how you describe your own cognitive and interaction patterns, and what kind of connection would be useful to you now. It looks for shared ground, reciprocal needs and contributions, potentially useful differences, and practical constraints. The result is a conversation hypothesis, not a verdict.
The categories are:
- current intent
- interaction and communication style
- what the person needs from a connection
- what the person can offer
- preferred pace and repair style
- meaningful shared ground
- useful difference
- explicit boundaries and logistical constraints
Likely is not a diagnostic, therapeutic, neurological, employment, credit, or safety-screening tool. Results should not be used to make high-impact decisions about another person. Introductions occur only with mutual consent, and people can remove themselves from discovery at any time.
